  • A must have for Iwana owners!

  • For forty bucks, this product is a steal! and gives you two different Iwanas. Two of my favourite local streams are heavily forested and even shortening the line on my 12' Iwana - whilst cutting down on lost flies due to foliage - wasn't preventing casting and manoeuvre issues in heavy brush.
I have found a good line combo to be about 6' of 4.5 level line with about 3.5' of 5x tippet. The heavier level line is needed as the rod is almost too light to feel the loading with a lighter line and the slightly stiffer action handles it well - giving precise casts once you get used to it.
This has become my default combo - although the 12' handle and longer line is always in the pack, ready for a quick change should the conditions dictate.

  • Handle upgrade is awesome
  • Location/type of places I fish: Very small mountain streams
  • I have an 11' Iwana but found it to be a little too long for some of the streams I fish. The handle replacement was the perfect answer for the problem. For the price of the handle I now really have 2 rods, with the ability to use the original components on larger streams.

  • A great addition to any Iwana and a true upgrade!
  • Location/type of places I fish: All waters throughout Utah
  • What an great product. I originally got it for those days I hit streams close by house with tight cover and lots of overhanging tress, but have never taken it off. I fish it everywhere and although it is shorter have found the 7:3 action to allow me to still cast longer level lines and it has plenty of backbone to handle every fish I hooked into, including a nice 19" brown. I would highly recommend this upgraded handle to any Iwana because you could switch back and forth have two rods in one. All that said however don't be surprised if like me leave the upgraded handle on.

  • Extra Handle = Extra Rod!
  • Location/type of places I fish: rivers and streams and small creeks
  • I got this handle specifically for some very small, overgrown streams I have near me as well as for backpacking to get to these areas.

I have a 12' iwana and ordered the 9'6" handle.
Collapsed length and overall weight are both decreased with the shorter handle.

As has been mentioned, the action of the rod seems to change a bit with the big change in length. I'm not sure I'd totally classify it as a 7:3, but to go along with how TenkaraUSA has classified the Ito, I might call it a "Stiff 6:4" in comparison to the stock 12' Iwana or the 13' Amago I also have.

I highly recommend this accessory as it quickly transforms your one rod into a completely different rod.

Finishing on the grip and blank section are the usual high quality from Tenkara USA.

  • A must have add on
  • Location/type of places I fish: Small Freestone streams
  • I used this handle, to convert my 11 foot Iwana to the 9 footer, generally speaking I try and get as long a rod as possible for every stream I fish but I got this addition for backpacking, up in the mountains were the stream is often not more than a couple feet wide.
wow! was I impressed, this handle addition turns an 11 foot rod into the littlest sweetest svelte rod you could ever imagine and it weighs absolutely nothing. I have been enjoying this little rod so much that I have been finding myself bringing it to larger waters and just adding more line. with this handle on the 11 foot Iwana, you just couldnt ask for a better rod for small water brookies.

  • A great idea
  • Location/type of places I fish: Northern and Central California, Southern Oregon, Sierra Nevada, or where ever I end up next to water.
  • I originally purchased the 12' Iwana and I really like it a lot. But found that it was just a bit too long for a couple of the smaller creeks I fish, that have lower cover. I also kept seeing how others on the forum really liked their 11' Iwana. They were going on and on about it. I have to admit that I was getting a little jealous. So when the handle options came out, it was a no brainer that I would be ordering one. I now use my Iwana as an 11'er or 12'er and it now fits any where I need to put my fly. It's so easy to make the switch, I can do it in less than one minute right at the stream side. It's a great option that deserves 5 flies.

  • Nice addition to your Iwana
  • Location/type of places I fish: Wisconsin- fish in small streams and rivers
  • I have used this to adapt my 11' Iwana. In the wind, it can be very hard to cast, but when the conditions are right, it is great for some super small stream action. The largest fish that I have caught is about 10" and it was a fight in this super tiny creek.
