Tenkara USA's 3rd generation traditional tenkara lines are an improvement over our original lines: they cast more easily, with more precision, better against wind, and do not tangle/coil when freed from a snag.

These have been developed to cast in perfect balance with tenkara rods - with power and precision - yet make the most delicate presentations you have ever seen. These lines are an improvement over our first offer of traditional tenkara lines, being easier to cast, easier to cast through breezes and yet easy to keep off the water. We believe we achieved the perfect line with this one.

Tenkara lines come with a transition loop on the thicker end, which will be girth-hitched to the tip of the tenkara rod. Tenkara USA lines are hand-woven by expert line-makers in the United States.

Length: 10ft. 6in or 13ft
Transition loop: Soft Spectra® braid, 80lbs

  • Perfect turnover and amazing casts

  • Love these lines! I have tried other furled lines made from UNI thread and they do not even come close to the quality feel of these TenkaraUSA lines. I am new to Tenkara but with these lines I can get the tightest loops and pinpoint precision casts. These lines even slingshot cast under the Rhododendrons with grace. Now... if they would only make one in a twenty foot length!

  • Very fun to cast, really nice feeling

  • This line is very suple and fun to cast. I'm just starting out and have primarily used my level line, but this is much more suple and lands very, very softly. While I'm a beginner (not a tenkara master), my gut tells me to recommend this when the water is much softer, i.e. a small, slow spring creek where even a slightly heavier level line might land with too much force. However, it also picks up some water which becomes a fine mist first cast, so stealthy over-land casting is optimal.

  • No memory line makes great Tenkara line
  • Location/type of places I fish: WNC Mountain streams and small lakes
  • For Tenkara purposes, using a line with zero memory is key - this line has it. Especially for the beginner Tenkara fisherman, this is definitely the way to go.

  • Love this line
  • Location/type of places I fish: Chester county pa
  • This line is absolutely amazing.... casts better than my homemade silk furled leaders....Using it on the AYU which takes the most subtle flick to turn over the 13 ft of line....caught seven trout yesterday in a place where I have been told there were no trout....awesome product spend less time casting and more time fishing...

  • High quality product
  • Location/type of places I fish: North Ga., Trout, Bass, Bream
  • This is a high quality, well made product. I am new to Tenkara, so this is hard for me to judge yet. I have been using the level lines so far, but I am drawn to this line. It seems more "organic" somehow. I am not sure if this is a good description. The presentation is definitly more delicate than the level lines, and I like the feel of this line better. I think anyone, like myself, needs to purchase both styles of lines to see how they cast. I have the 12' Iwana, and I wonder if a softer rod would work better with this line. Oh boy, I can see another gear addiction starting!

  • like it better than level
  • Location/type of places I fish: spring creeks
  • Granted, I still have only used the Tenkara rod for fishing dries to rising fish, but I like this line better than the level for the fishing I've been doing. Great presentation on very pressured water. Bit frustrating in the wind but that's a given. One of these days, I'll put on the level line and try some of the more traditional flies and attempt the techniques... But it'll take a lot to get this line off of my 11' Iwana.

  • Precise but delicate
  • Location/type of places I fish: Tule River
  • This line is so precise, but presents the fly so delicately... I am very impressed how well and accurately this line lays a fly down. It can be so delicate, but aggressive enough to put the fly down hard if need be...

  • my favorite line
  • Location/type of places I fish: Wyoming
  • I have tried fishing with both these lines and level lines on both my 12ft Iwana and Amago and I must say that I definitely love the tapered line. Although the level lines may do better in wind and may be lighter, I just love the way these lines cast so gracefully and accurately.

  • My go-to light line
  • Location/type of places I fish: Montana, medium to larged sized streams and alpine lakes
  • This is a great line! I find that my fly presentation is enhanced when utilizing this line due to the extreme lightness and sensitivity that this line has. Not to mention a beautifully crafted artisan furled line.
