Certified Tenkara Guide Jim Mitchell guides in the Hamilton area of Montana primarily on the Bitterroot river system.
“I am a second generation outfitter and have been around the outfitting and guiding business all my life, guiding full time since 2001. I am an certified Tenkara guide and an Orvis endorsed fly fishing guide. Based out of Hamilton, Montana. I discovered Tenkara when a good client of mine started bringing a Tenkara rod along on float trips. Tenkara is fun, easy and a big benefit in some situations. Seeing the benefits I became proficient in this technique. We offer Tenkara guided fly fishing trips that the focus on teaching our guests the various aspects of this simple form of fly-fishing. I now carry a Tenkara Rod with me on all my fishing and hunting trips. Tenkara is a great way start a beginner and offers seasoned anglers another tool. Our guided trips are put together for each individual angler or group. Montana is home to an amazing array of trout waters, big and small that are ideal for Tenkara. Whether walk & wade fishing a small stream or big waters from a boat to gain more access, Tenkara fly fishing is highly effective and fun.
Choose from small stream or river walk & wade to float & wade fishing from a boat on larger rivers to access more fishing locations.
Rivers we guide are the Bitterroot River mainstem East and West forks, Blackfoot, Clark Fork, Missouri and Madison. We hold a USFS special use permit for walk and wade trips on these 6 small streams in the Bitterroot National Forest, South fork of Skalkaho, Sleeping Child Creek, Mill Creek, Blodgett Creek and Lost Horse Creek and overnight camping in Bear Creek.”
