Discussion on tenkara rods

Suggestions

Postby Sam Sicka » Thu Jun 21, 2018 10:09 am

So I’ve never used a rod quite like Tenkara, but i love the idea. Planning on getting my father a late Father’s Day gift as he loves to fly fish as well as ride his 990 adventure bike through mountains and across the Midwest. I would assume the rhodo or sato is the best option, but not sure which to go with. Both are about the same collapsed so they’d be great to pack up on the bike and just pull out whenever he sees a good spot beside the trail or pass. I’ve asked him a few questions and it seems he’d be mostly fishing brushy streams and beaver ponds similar to around the higher elevations of the Gunnison National Forrest (if any of you guys are familiar with the area). Just let me know if you have any suggestions because I’ve heard nothing but praise about both rods. Thanks!

Hi Sam, welcome.

If the water being fished is brushy and tight, look at the Rhodo. It is our small creek and stream model and is good for tight spots. Can handle trout up to around 18" or less.

If the trout are a little larger than that, then select the Sato instead.

Both are great lite weight rods to enjoy in many places.
