"Father of the modern tenkara in Japan ",Yamaoto Soseki

Tenkara is a new type of fishing to the US, and information (particularly in English) is sparse. This is the place to build a knowledge base of Tenkara.

No-tarin club 7
I will concreatly show you the conditions of No-tarin club's entering as below.

①We must believe that tsuchinoko is alive.
If we don't belive that tsuchinoko isn't alive,we can not seek it earnestly.
②We love the fish (iwana, yamame, amago) ,and we love fishing in mountain streames.
So we do our best for fish conservation and propagation.
③We love nature ,mountains and rivers than our family life.
④We never increase the menbers as a rule.
If we would like to add the person, we must agree all of us.
⑤We can never retire the menber of No-tarin club until our death.

At first I was treated as fellow of No-tarin club.
It took 15 years what I became a formal No-tarin club's menber !

No-tarin Club 8
Thank you for your reply to Furui Boushi.
I try to explain Mr. Masakazu Nitta (新田 雅一)who is a No-tarin club leader today after Soseki’s death.
His fishing name is Amago Sanjin(天子山人). Amago is a kind of salmon family. Amago lives only in Japan. It is a very beautiful fish. Sanjin means a person who loves mountain and amago iwana and yamame. Both iwama and yamame are kind of salmon family too.
When I worked at Higashinada Ward office as a Kobe City offier,he visited to study amago in Sumiyoshi River in Higashinada ward.
Because we planted amago in the Sumiyoshi River. Amago was a symbol fisy in Sumiyoshi River.
When Sanjin visited to our office,I was out for business. So I could not meet him. It’s a pity.
I called to Sanjin. After a cupple days, I met him. We made a promise to go fishing in the future. I made a friend with Sanjin. I was a lucky man!
Then I was a fellow of No-tarin club. I was invited fishing of No-tarin club’s trip.

Kiyoshi, Thanks for continuing to tell your story.

I like pictures :)

Feb 2012, a gathering to tell and record fishing stories. I believe Mr Nitta is the fellow in the middle of the steps in the top picture, in the light colored cap and jacket. Also pictured farther down on the web page.

More from the same web page - Mr Nitta may be 80 + years old but it seems to not slow him down from getting out and about. :)

No-tarin club 9
Thank you for your replying and pictuers.
I 'll add to explain about picture and reading of chinese character.
In front of the left, he is Dr.katsuhiko Yoshiyasu(吉安 克彦).He is a doctor in Oosaka City and he is studying fish name espessily in mountain steames.Maybe he ia 83 years old now.
Next,in front of the left,he is Masakazu Nitta(新田 雅一).He puts on his glasses. He will be 88 years old on this May. And his fishing name is 天子山人.
We Japanese call 天子⇒amago, not tenshi and 山人⇒sanjin, not yamabito in this case.
Of course,we can call 天子⇒tenshi, and 山人⇒yamabito. It depends on case.
Chinese character is read varety in case by case, It’s quite difficult for even our Japanese.
So it’s natural that you are wrong to read it.

I am sorry that I forgot to explain oher two persons.
Behind of Dr.Katsuhiko Yoshiyasu, he is Yoshikazu Kato (加藤 佳和).He is interesting to Internet. And in fact he often uses it.
But anoter person in this picuture,(besides him)no man use internet.
Behind of Mr.Amago Sanjin,he is Takayuki Kino(木野 高行). He is a menber of No-tarin club.
His fishing name is Kino Mankei(木野漫渓).
He is a very good at driving a car. On the other hand, both Soseki and Sanjin have no dorivers licence. So Mankei used to be a driver for them.
When Mankei was a young man,he drived a car from Kyoto to Hakodate(in Hokkaido)only just in a day! In those days,we had no expressway in Japan. He was called tough and nice guy.

Kiyoshi,
Ah you caught my mistake. I posted a little to quickly. I had intended to copy the phonetic spelling that is more correct and not the English translation that is usually less correct. I have edited my post. Now maybe the names are more accurate. :) I usually try to put the Japanese name too which will always be more accurate.

I have no fishing name. A few days ago I did find this name , ダビデ, which is supposed to be my name, David. May it is correct spelling. :? :)

Thanks for describing the other men. They seem to all be working to protect fresh water fish to healthy populations. :)

Kiyoshi,

Who is 紀村落釣氏, pictured here on the right of Mr. Masakazu Nitta , 新田 雅一 ?
( I put the link to this picture in the earlier post. But it is to big to embed the image in the forum post)

http://park23.wakwak.com/~tsuri-toshokan/F/nitta.jpg

Is he also a member of No-tarin club ?

He seems to be the author of this book. I am not sure of the title. Something like ' Talk About the Love of River Fish" . May be you can translate more accurately.

Image

He appears to have been leader for a society or foundation for the presevation of fresh water fish.

I am just curious. But I don't intend to take you off the story of Soseki as the Father of modern Tenkara.

I ’ll explain to Mr. Kimura Rakutyou(紀村 落釣) for Mr.dwalker.
Rakutyou(紀村 落釣) was not here in this photograph.
It is true that Rakutyou was a menber of No-tarin club. But he withdrawaled. Because he organized “foundation of freshwater fish conservation association (財団法人淡水魚保護協会)” .
He belonged to No-tarin club about a couple of years.
According to the rule of No-tarin club, menber could not retier it untill his death.
But his case was an exception.Because the foundtion was for public welfare.
I hear that Rakutyou lives still in Nishinomiya or Ashiya City.He is fine now.

Kiyoshi, Thanks for the reply. Perhaps the picture named the people in the picture incorrectly.

The names below the picture say " 左:天子山人氏 右:紀村落釣氏 . In the picture on the left side. One row up from the bottom.

http://park23.wakwak.com/~tsuri-toshokan/kouyuu.htm

The same man is also in the next picture to the right but not named but it does say 「淡水魚保護協会」 below the picture.

But that is not important. You have explained who 紀村 落釣 is and what he did after leaving the No-train club. Thank you.

Please continue to tell your story about No-tarin club and how Soseki became the Father of Modern Tenkara in Japan. :)
