"Father of the modern tenkara in Japan ",Yamaoto Soseki

Tenkara is a new type of fishing to the US, and information (particularly in English) is sparse. This is the place to build a knowledge base of Tenkara.

Kiyoshi,
Good seeing you here again.
Sometimes one fish, or just a little time of fishing is enough I feel. It is good to enjoy the water and try to catch a fish between things. I wish I lived closer to the water.

Kiyoshi san, I also just like to be out in nature. With that being said, one fish by accident is better then none at all. But I would rather catch a fish with skill then by accident. While sight fishing, I often stop pulsing the fly to see if the fish is interested in the fly or it's movement. Rarely will the fish take the still fly. Then before the fish leaves the area. The fish can be called back by making the fly vibrate again. It is fun to play with the fish's instincts, to get the hook-up.

Weekends and holidays where I live usually aren't as good for fishing as the weekdays. I can only imagine how crowded the streams must have been for you.

Found/ stumbled upon some No-tarian club essay.
In Japanese if you would like to try your hand at translation.

And Translated with Bing, (WARNING)translation requires a sense of humor and extreme curiosity about Tenkara to read after Bing gets done with it.

Kiyoshi-san, why don't you translate your own essay?

Kiyoshi,

Once again, thank you for this series. It keeps becoming even more interesting as you continue. The cover of your book looks beautiful, lyrical, and poetic. It looks like even your mostly non-fishing friends love your writing. I love Eddie's suggestion that the book be translated. Since we have limited information in the West, any translation would be a real contribution.

Eddie,

Thank you also for following along and making additional comments.

- Jack

"I previewed the English presentation about Soseki's story"
Today, I visited Prof.Fern#### office at Hyo## university who is a expert of the
presentation and informatics with my friend Kiyoshi, because he needs to practice
an English presentation before he goes to the Tenkara Sumit USA.
I happen to be in graduate school after my retirement. So, I introduced my English teacher to him.
Over the past 20 years, Kiyoshi has done a lot of writing in Japanese about fishing and various mountain streams.
This March, he wrote a Soseki and No-tarin club's story in English in preparation for his visit the USA,
but he did not prepare a slide presentation about Soseki and No-tarin club.
Two weeks ago, he finally started on this presentation task and yesterday, he completed his presentation.
One of the foreign students at the school volunteered and helped him with corrections and suggestions for his English.
Today, he made a succusseful test presentaion befor the professor and the foreign student.
The professor praised him and said "this presentation is very interesting" and gave him some advice.
After this trial presentation, Kiyoshi said "I want to make the presentation more interesting".
So, as a friend,I am glad to help him out with this task.

Soseki decided to go Kisofukusima for learning tenkara with his fishing club's friends.
The name of fishing club is very unique. It is “No-tarin Club”. What is No-tarinn?

Kiyoshi wrote:No-tarin Club what ?
Mr.Soseki Yamamoto made the fishing club that the name was No-tarin Club.
No-tarin means fool or stupid. In fact.they are not fool or stupid. Just only, they love fishing very much. ....
Soseki and other 6 menbers joined with plenty of streams and mountains in Japan.
To be continued Kiyoshi
