I thought that I should clarify the statements and claims made
in my first post

The Tenkara fishing style is a modern version of a very ancient
technique. It has been improved by the introduction of modern
materials for rods and lines etc.
As far as flies are concerned
This basic style is identical to the Alpine flies -
tied in Northern Italy and the alpine districts of the surrounding
countries for over two hundred years. They were also illustrated in “International Trout Flies” by W. H. Lawrie (1969) and by Taff Price in 'Fly Patterns, an international guide' (1986).
The basic reverse hackle patterns are very very similar.
