A neat item to control waste line or tippet

What are the other ESSENTIAL pieces of equipment you carry with you? How do you pack? How do you hold your gear while fishing? Fly boxes? Snips? you tell us.

Here is an item that I have been using for trash line/tippet control on the stream: the Smith Creek Trash Fish.

It works excellent!

I haven't used the Smith Creek, but I have used the Fishpond PioPod. It worked well for small pieces, but I found it difficult to stuff in long chunks of tippet.

So I moved to the monoMaster, which handles both quite well. The center has velcro-like hooks and grabs a loop when you spin it. It will suck in an amazing amount of stuff. I tuck small pieces under the tangle and they stay. When it gets filled up to the point it won't grab any more stuff, open it up and cut off the tippet.

I put a loop through the end and hang it on my wader strap, usually tucked inside until needed.

It can be found at TenkaraBum, and elsewhere.

YMMV.
