Bow and Arrow Cast

Bow and Arrow Cast

Postby Bill_DeLanney » Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:33 pm

How far should you be able to cast using the bow and arrow cast? Using my Sato with a 12 foot level line I can use an overhead cast for about 20 feet. When I try and use the bow and arrow cast I am only able to cast about 15 feet. Am I not bending the rod enough? How much can I bend it? Don’t want to break anything.

Hi Bill, it is the same as the bow N arrow in western fly fishing.

Here is a nice Orvis video that shows how to do it.

If you want to watch some bow N arrow in action, google Joe Humphreys as he is the king of doing this in the western fly fishing world.

Check out about 15 minutes in. ;-)

How about watching a Japanese video of what may just be the best Bow-and-Arrow Cast ever filmed? Unfortunately the comments will be made in Japanese and lost on most of us in the US-of-A, and you will have to watch casting technique on the 10 & 12 O'clock overhead casts, sidearm casts, cross chest and backhand casts before finally getting to the Bow-and- Arrow Cast, but it will be well worth your time: https://tenkaratalk.com/2012/02/tenkara-casting-techniques/
