Tailwater Tenkara little help please

Tailwater Tenkara little help please

Postby tntom » Sat Nov 30, 2013 10:56 pm

I would like to hear some technique from some of you that have fished Tenkara on tailwater. I live close to the Clinch River below Norris dam there is some good trout fishing light tippet and #18 midges are what most people fish. Just would like to hear how you fish such a rig with a Amago.

If you aint high sticking, you aint fishing hard enough.

Tail-water fishing with #18-22 midges or small PTN's is really no different in my experience. I like to tie them with a little weight in them, preferring a silver bead. On tail-waters I am not as productive fishing the film as I am deeper. I use my longest rod most often, a 15-footer, and generally favor a longer line and tippet. I often go down to a 7X tippet in fluorocarbon if I have to, but hate it since I fumble with knots and threading. I prefer to stick with 5X nylon if I can. Move slow and with some stealth. I rarely use an indicator fly. Tenkara is ultra sensitive, and an indicator boogers up the cast. On tail-waters I think placement is more important than drift.
