Tenkara Videos from Italy and England

Tenkara Videos from Italy and England

Postby dwalker » Tue Mar 05, 2013 7:45 pm

Today I found three recently posted tenkara videos.

First up, a couple of videos from Italy of Masami Sakakebara when he was there last spring. Thanks Davide.

A video of him casting. Similar to the video of him that was posted several months ago but this time mostly side casting. Posted 2/10/2013 , 0:59
In Aikido there is a certain throw, I don't recall the name, it's just kind of a shrug of the shoulders, that is called the 40 year technique, because it takes 40 years to learn how to do it properly. I think many of Masami's casting techniques approach 40 year techniques.

A second video of him casting in different directions while fishing. Includes some slow motion views. Posted 2/27/2013 , 2:00

Next a video from England, I think. ( the narrator sounds exactly like the narrator of some Tai Chi videos I've watched that were filmed in England. Similar voice and rhythm of speaking ;) )

The video was made by FlyFishLessonsTV a group that appears to be based in England but according to their web site they fish all over, England, Canada, USA and NZ. This is the only Tenkara video I found made by them. Using an Ito rod and what looks like a 5.5 to 6m line.

OK, nymph fishers. What would you do the same or different?

For reference, their web site.

Tenkara is fundamental fishing fun

In the first video Masami Sakakebara's line is so vibrant. He looks as though he was born with a Tenkara rod in his hand (hopefully telescoped closed). His casting is nice to study. Really makes me want to get out and fish!

I agree the video's of the casting is very impressive. The more I watch these, the more I want to know the following steps of presentation and technique followed up.

Tenkara casting is easy, everyone can autonomously learn.
But light and long lines need a good technique that is not so easy to learn. Looking at Masami casting, it's impressive to see how little is the arm and wrist movement and how big is the energy in the line.
It's an experience to see him fishing.
