Fly Swap Interest? - Soft Hackle Theme

Postby PeteBerry » Tue Jun 10, 2014 4:14 am

I've been trolling the boards for a while now, with an occasional comment here and there. I've been particularly impressed with the creative and effective flies tied for past swaps as well as the Vagabox project.

I'd like to see if there's any interest in a new fly swap, since it appears to have been a while since the last one. I was thinking of a soft hackle theme, if only because they're some of my favorites to tie and to fish! I'm open to other suggestions, or the theme is open to individual interpretation. If enough response is drummed up, I'll update this with timelines, etc. to trade the flies.

Who's in??

I would be game if others join in. It think the soft hackle theme is a great one. Soft hackles and tenkara compliment each other nicely.

I'll play too. Will give me a reason to tie something OTHER than a sakasa kebari. How many tyers you want to get to consider it a go?

I've been thinking about trying to get a swap going here for awhile. The Fly Tying Forum has lots of great swaps, and my tying has improved from doing them, but the tenkara themed swaps are slow to fill up and sometimes end up short.
I'd be in.
I tie many sakasa kebari with a soft hackle(partridge and I just picked up a pheasant skin), do those count? Or are you looking for more traditional patterns?

Any nontraditional fly patterns would be great! If we were all tying the same thing, the swap would be pretty boring.

As far as how many participants, I was hoping for around 10 or so, just to get a decent variety and number of flies exchanged, but i'd be fine kicking it off with fewer if there isn't that much interest. If we only have a handful, I thought we could each submit a couple of flies rather than just one each. I'd leave that up to each individual, though.

Finally, if you're reading this, and are on the fence about joining in, go for it! Why not?

I would be interested as well. It has been a while since I've done a swap!
Thanks. Keep me in the loop.

I'm still interested. I'll shoot PeteBerry a pm and see where he stands. I'm willing to host the swap as I'd like to see it happen. Will update once I hear from him, or after the weekend, which ever comes first.
