A traveling Tenkara fly box...

Postby acheateaux » Sun May 20, 2012 10:36 am

So here is my idea...

We get a box, put flies in it and ship it around the country/world. You fish with it, replace any flies you lost, plus a few extra "local favorites" and send it to the next on the list. Figure a 2 week slot you sign up for, fish, take pictures, post stoke here and then onward. Maybe slap a small local sticker on it or I could throw in a small journal to record the boxes adventures.

Interest? I'm more than happy to spearhead the project and get it going. I can get some flies started if anyone else wants to donate. Also if anyone has an old box kicking around to contribute to the project, that would be awesome.

What say you Tenkara anglers?

I would be definitely interested. I would gladly contribute whatever flies I could tie.

I will be willing to see if a local fly shop would be willing to donate a box, but what size are you looking for? Anybody else willing to inquire with their local shops?

I would, but my local shop is a chain and they don't really do deals or donations.

I don't know if we need a brand new box right now, let's see how this shakes out before we try to get one donated. I'm sure something will turn up.

I'm up for this...I think it's an awesome idea! How long does the fly box travel for? till the end of the season? or just keep it going period? Any thoughts yet on numbers or types of flies to go into the box? I look forward to hearing some details.

I'd be up for it - I have a brand new waterproof, slotted foam box that holds 200+ flies that we could use.

Nice! Can we sign that with sharpies or are you going to want it back?

We can call it the Vagabox.
