FireHole Sticks Competition Fly Tying Hooks

Postby Karl Klavon » Thu Nov 29, 2018 10:03 am

Whereas some fly tiers may believe that the last thing we need now is another new company selling fly tying hooks, FireHole Sticks Hooks are offering very high quality Competition Hooks, in lots of 36 and 50 pieces, at a cost of slightly over 20 cents a hook, with large gapes. A word of caution here: Their hook sizing runs at least one hook size bigger than standard, so some of the hooks that I ordered turned out to be too big for my intended purposes. Order one size smaller than what you have been using if you want to stay in the same size range of fly construction. The hooks are really beautifully finished (Shiny Black Nickle) and crazy sharp. Here is a link to their hook line: https://fireholeoutdoors.com/firehole-sticks/

300 series Hooks have continuous curves.
400 series Hooks are for dry flies.
500 series Hooks are jig style hooks.
600 series Hooks are for nymphs and wet flies.
700 series Hooks are specialty and all purpose hooks.
800 series Hooks are streamer and meat hooks.

If this works, what you will see is a size comparison (lower right hand corner of the package of #14 TMC 2488 Hooks) to a #14 FireHole Sticks 413 Hook with a TMC 2488 Hook:
