Nicest and strongest brown yet..

Postby Daniel @ Tenkara USA » Tue Jul 21, 2009 6:32 pm

I just returned from a wonderful trip in the Sierras where I got to spend some time fishing with one of the early tenkara adopters, Mr. Jeff Kreager. I had a terrific time with him and his sons. I wanted to quickly share a couple of pictures and may elaborate more on it later.
Yesterday I landed my nicest fish on tenkara so far, a fat and strong 16" brown that leaped once and held its position for a long time with my rod bent halfway while I tried to pry it out from under the waterfalls. I was using the 13' Ayu, 5:5. Even though I have caught some very large fish when living in Brazil, and salmon off the coast here, this was absolutely the fight of a lifetime.

what a great looking fish, the spots are huge and so many of them, and the river looks really wild, it would be extremely rare to get a big wild brownie like that in a comparable upland stream in the UK. What a great experience, and its even sunny there

Nice fish!

See, you don't have to target big fish. If they're in the stream, you're going to catch one from time to time.

I can definitely believe it was the fight of a lifetime.

Gets the adrenaline pumping, doesn't it?

Beautiful Fish! We just purchased our Tenkara Rods this morning and we can't wait to get them on the water. My wife and I love the Eastern Sierras and can't wait to use them there.
