landed this fish yesterday. fishing a 13' 5:5 ayu and 5x tippet. took a few minutes, when he ran i ran. when he sulked i would apply pressure. it helps that the water was cold and the fish lethargic. i was tar-getting whitefish.

WHOA... Certainly more than you bargained for!

That is a serious fish, I can't believe the bend in the rod.

Amazing fish.
Amazing feat.

And I'd have to say these rods continue to amaze me, too.

Wow that's a big one. The Tenkara rods never cease to amaze me. Thanks for the info and picture of an awesome catch. I gotta link this to the other site for my friends to see.

WOW! A new record! I'll tell you, I shot for quality, but the rods do continue to impress me too!

Well done! Incredibly well done!

Awesome fish. Great job!

I lost one the other day that may have been that size when the hook pulled free. I had it in close and the rod and 5lb tippet held.

Nice job!
I've been wanting to buy an Ayu - not sure about a 5:5 or a 6:4. Do you think a 6:4 would have been better for such a large fish?

I have the 6:4 Ayu, and have never fished with the 5:5 -- and I haven't caught a fish that size, but my guess is that with a fish like that, the difference would not even be noticeable.

I have fished with the Ebisu in both 5:5 and 6:4, and could definitely tell the difference in casting, but I'm pretty sure that a big fish is going to put enough of a bend in the rod that it wouldn't matter - particularly with the Ayu, which I see as a fairly soft rod to begin with.
