Fox Carlton Pond is the perfect spot for a fly fishing school
Fox Carlton Pond Sporting Camps/Campground is located in the beautiful Western Mountains of Maine, birthplace of Fly Rod Crosby who was awarded the first Registered Maine Guide license and is highly regarded as the Annie Oakley of Fly-Fishing. Our secluded and historic 5 acre trout pond is private and has “native” and stocked Brook & Rainbow Trout. No fishing license is required for guests to fish our idyllic Trout filled pond.
Tenkara & Traditional fly casting class
Tenkara fly-fishing, uses only a rod, line & fly, is very easy to learn and a valuable tool to get beginners involved in the sport and experienced fly fishermen to find another way to enjoy the outdoors.
This all encompassing “Fly-Fishing Class” is for beginners as well as experienced fly fishermen. You will be instructed on theory and practice of casting. Our expert instructors will guide you step by step through the four-part cast, false cast and roll cast. Maine Guides will explain how to strip and shoot line as well as tying fishing knots, reading water, tackle know how, fly selection, approach and presentation, playing, landing and releasing fish.
Join us for coffee at 8:30AM with course beginning at 9:00AM and ending at 4:00PM.
Dan Pierce II – Maine Guide, has been fishing “Tenkara” exclusively for the past 7 years and an Ambassador to “Tenkara USA” the past 5 yrs. Dan was brought up in Belgrade and had his first canoe at age 10.
Nancy Taylor – Maine Guide since 2007, has completed LL Bean ‘s
Teach the Teacher Program. Nancy has taught MDIF & W, Trout Unlimited and local school programs. Nancy also builds and teaches building graphite and bamboo rod building as well as fly tying.
Bring your own equipment or we can supply you with fly-fishing equipment. Just let us know ahead of time so we will be prepared for you. Bring rain gear, hat with visor, rugged closed-toe shoes, personal prescriptions such as EpiPen or inhaler, polarized sun glasses with lanyard, forceps to release fish, a pair of nippers on a ‘zinger (when we tie knots you will want to be able to trim your work or nip off any fly etc.) and bug dope.
Day Trippers: Pre payment of $75 for the day includes instruction, morning coffee & equipment (when necessary). Bring your own lunch.
Discount for Overnighters staying in our cozy cabins. Fly-Fishing instruction will be only $60. (Normal room deposit plus $60 non-refundable deposit for the course required.)
