Yuzo Sebata Tying Tenkara Flies, Streamside

Visit Website

Mr. Yuzo Sebata is one of the most well-known tenkara anglers in Japan. He keeps his fly-fishing simple and enjoys backpacking in the mountains of Japan catching trout and foraging for mushrooms. When we went backpacking together, he brought along a very simple fly-tying kit, which he pulled out at our camp by the stream and proceeded to tie a fly. Watch to see how he ties flies without a vise and with very simple materials.

Thank you Daniel. I found the video very informative. Keep up the good work.

I forgot to add English translation: I used to fish with Tenkara method back in Japan when I was growing up. Well, maybe the way I fished was more like semi-authentic Tenkara, however. Ever since I came to the USA, my fishing method shifted to the Western flyfishing but now I’m planning to start back Tenkara in the USA!

I am one of the few women that fishes the tenkara way especially in Idaho where we have many great places to fish. I have been using the videos since there really is no one to teach tenkara here. They have really helped me understand and appreciate this special way to fish. I thank you for your insight and I will keep practicing to get the big one!

    • That’s awesome you’re out fishing there, and learning through the videos. Really appreciate knowing that. Hope they are helpful and that your big one comes soon!
