On my last outing I lost the mono extender from my traditional furled line - along with a #14 Royal Wulff, it became a sacrifice to the gods of the forest. Lost only the mono part, and the last loop in the furled line is still intact. I would like to replace the extender as prescribed with 3x tippet - I know the extender is not necessary but would like to keep one on this line. What kind of knot is best for this purpose? One illustration in my TUSA literature seems to show a clinch or improved clinch knot for this purpose?

I think I would either tie a Figure 8, or a Knail Knot.

I use the Eugene Bend on all my furls and I have never had a failure. I think a Improved Clinch would likely be fine too.

Tie a hefty piece of tippet to the loop pf your furled line with a Fish-N-Fool knot. Google it. Damn strong and easy. To tie.
At the end of your tippet tie a Rapala knot for your loop. I strongly dislike perfection loops. They are weak sauce. Use tippet of 1-2X
