I strongly recommend Sawyer water filters. The "Squeeze" is the best. Very easy to use, small, an good filtration.
http://www.sawyer.com/water.htmlI saw the Sawyer Squeeze filter recommended in the post on an AT trail journal a couple of weeks ago and this afternoon I went to 3 local stores that are supposed to carry their products but none of them had any of the Sawyer products in stock. I guess I live in too small of a community. I will have to order it from an on-line supplier. I was also looking to purchase the Sawyer Permethrin insect repellent and Picaridin insect repellent ( it will not damage your equipment like DEET) , struck out there too.
You have to read carefully the specs on the Sawyer filters, some are .1 filters and others are .02 filters. The Squeeze is a .1 filter.
Here's Sawyer's video of the Squeeze filter
http://www.sawyer.com/video-squeeze.htmlPretty sweet if it works as advertised.
You might find this information about purifying water interesting. Perhaps its main point is that if you filter your water but neglect to wash your hands you may by pass the filtering you did of your water.
UL Backpacking Water Purification , about 7 minutes

http://hikelight.com/18ultralightbackpackingwatertreatment.htmlFrom the above text;
"One conclusion of this paper is that you can indeed contract giardiasis on visits to the Sierra Nevada, but it won’t be from the water. So drink freely and confidently: Proper personal hygiene is far more important in avoiding giardiasis than treating the water."
Neither the video nor the text pitch the Sawyer Squeeze filter but I think that is what I will be ordering. And it comes with 3 sizes of water pouches, .5L, 1L and 2 L.
