Just picked a free weekend on my calendar for an outing in Northern California on April 28th. If anyone wants to join me, just respond below. It's a free outing, anyone is welcome to join. I'll not keep track of who is coming or not, just show up at a location I'll be posting below. But, I would like an RSVP response here to keep track of how many people may come.

Location: Near Groveland, CA. Meet on large parking lot in the intersection of Cherry Lake Rd with Hwy 120. About 15 minutes east of Groveland. If you're coming Eastward (which you likely will be), you'll pass Groveland, drive about 15 minutes, pass a lookout area, pass a very high bridge. 100 yd past the bridge, on the left side (North) is the Cherry Lake Rd, and the parking area where we'll meet.

Meeting time: 9AM. We'll leave at 9:15AM promptly. Whoever is there is there.

Format: We'll meet, drive around the area for about 15 minutes. I'll go over techniques for about 1 hour, and we'll fish together. Then, everyone is free to fish together, or spread along the different streams in the area. I will likely be camping on Saturday night, and fish on Sunday too. Everyone can do whatever they wish.

Accommodation options: There are two campsites near the meeting space, one just 100 yds East of the meeting spot (Sweetwater I believe it's called), one about 500yd West of the meeting spot. This is a National Forest area, so you can camp out in the forest if you wish. There are motels/hotels in Groveland. I may be staying at Sweetwater if I can find a spot when I get there.

Daniel,

Sounds like loads of fun, so I'd sure like to join you. I'll put it on the calendar and see about clearing it with the boss. Work permitting, I'll be there.

Since that day is the general trout opener in California, we should declare it a tenkara holiday! :D (General trout opener is the last Saturday of April, so not necessarily April 28 each year) Emergencies aside, I'll be there.

You'll have a great time guys. The waters up there are Tenkara perfect and I'm sorry we can't make it. Have fun.

Also, I'm bringing a friend or two. They're new to flyfishing, so I hope this will be a good experience for them!

Cabins are relatively cheap in Groveland right now. We booked one for our families in the Pine Mountain Lake Association.

Hey Daniel,

We met at Planet Granite in the Presidio last night and I greatly appreciate you pointing me here. This trip sounds like fun and I definitely plan on joining. I would love to get hands-on with Tenkara and try out one of the rods.

Even more important, I am excited to just get out on the river. I haven't been fishing since opening day of the ski season... it's about that time to start switching gears!

Thanks again. Looking forward to it.

Cheers,
Daniel S.

Daniel, great meeting you last night. Glad I was wearing the tenkara t-shirt...
Looking forward to showing you tenkara in the water. It'll be a fun trip.
