Hey all - finally "decided" (read: got the okay from the wife) to go to the summit. Has anybody that is going made camping reservations anywhere? Just wondering if there was a camping area that was going to have some fellow tenkara anglers.

Part of me says stay at a hotel so I can do some work while away and I need access to Internet, etc.... The other part of me thinks staying at a camp location where many Tenkara anglers are staying for at least 2 maybe more days would be a blast!

But I will be locking in hotel since work requires online capabilities and would be nice to have all the modern amenities.

You're best bet for running into other Tenkara guys camping will be Big Cottonwood.

But there are a LOT of great campsites on great waters close to SLC. Big C is great, but look around, too.

We provided a list of campsites on the TUSA Summit page (click on the Dealers and Resources tab, then click on the Summit link under Daniel's upcoming events list).

To reserve a spot, go to www.reserveamerica.com and enter the zip code 84012.

We will also have a page dedicated to the Tenkara Summit 2012 with all info and important links on the new and very much improved Tenkara Guides website launching this month.

Oops. Did I leak that?

Just a tip for those doing an online reservation for the University Guest House, that you may need to call them afterwards and let them know you are part of the Tenkara Summit for reduced price.

When I locked in 4 nights the webpage showed $105 per night for my Deluxe King room, but then the email I received showed $119 per night afterwards. When I called them today the guy said something about rates change that time of year but I would think their online system should adjust for that.

Anyway, I then said I was supposed to call and mention Tenkara and was not sure if there was a agreed upon reduced rate. The guy said he linked my name to the Tenkara Summit and now my room was back down to the $105.

Anyway, just a little tip in my experience.

I am now locked in for 4 nights starting Friday and heading home Tuesday AM so I hope to fish at least Monday and maybe Sunday if possible. Not sure my arrival time yet on Friday and whether I will fly in or drive but in time I will figure this out.

Thanks for the info TJ. I'll make sure that Sherry calls and makes the reservation over the phone.

I will be looking to camp as well. I'm open to anything that's reasonably close to SLC. I am not familiar with any of the campgrounds. If anyone has a good recommendation on tent camping, please post it! Thanks!

Big cottonwood canyon is going to offer the closest camping and fishing. the creek is small but loaded w/ fish and perfect tenkara fishing. i have also heard there is good fishing in the middle section of little cottonwood canyon but camping is not as readily available and the creek is a little more difficult to access. here is a link to big cottonwood cyn camping. if you are interested in camping, a reservation would be good. i usually fish storm mtn ampitheater and up
