We will meet at Elkmount campground at the trail head parking lot at 8:00am. From there we can spend the morning fishing the park where ever we want. We will meet for lunch at Metcalf Bottoms picnic area for lunch and talking Tenkara at 1:00pm.
More to come.

Tom

I'll be there, here's a link to a map. http://www.hikinginthesmokys.com/map.htm
Can't wait to meet up Tom. I'll go on the 19th of May too. Any excuse to try fishing in the mountains is good for me. It's been far to long since I've been in the mountains. I grew up on the Eastern Pan Handle of West Virginia.
The 19th of May, may end up being a good time as well since most fly fishers could be indoors.

Anyone ever fish in Fontana lake? I bet that would be quite a place in the fall with the leaves changing.

I may be able to show up, and would sure like to do so. Is it possible to furnish more specific detail as to where we will be meeting. There is an Elk Mont campground near Gatlinburg and there is the broad-brush map on the forum. Thanks for whatever clarification you can provide, and I'm sorry to be so ignorant about the locale.~pfa

That's it Paul, go through Gatlinburg turn left at the visitor center toward Townsend and Elkmont campground is about 6 miles on the left.

Here's some simple directions Paul, I'm in the same boat with the directions after that. I was just gonna wing it after I reach the park gates. The Tenn State parks are all marked quite simply though. It should be easy for us all to run into each other.

Man, I'm jealous.

I've been involved with Wilderness Medicine electives, WFR courses, etc. around Townsend for a few years now. The Wilderness Medical Society's Elective is going on right now, and I can't be there this year. The elective culminates in a week long backpack through SMNP near the end of Feb - a great chance to get to some out-of-the-way fishing. Dunno of anywhere else you can bivy and wake up in a hoar frost cocoon.

We've got some incredible backcountry here in Utah. But there will always be something special about the Smokies.

Really wish I could fish with you guys. Please send us a post in April.

Rob

Looks like due to Easter, we'll fall back to the May 19th meeting at the GSMNP gathering.

Easter Sunday is 4/8/12 not 4/15/12 Easter is this Sunday.

If anyone decides to do something the weekend of May 19 let me know I will be in Tounsend TN Saturday and Sunday for Troutfest. It's a good time.
