First flies ever tied. Horrible iPhone picture, but I'm really enjoying being creative with all the thread colors, wire and feathers. Amazing what you can do for about $40 bucks.

There's a fly shop around the corner from me in Englewood, CO called Royal Stevens, and they are going out of business in a week or so, and everything is basically 50% off. Beats waiting for the internet to ship things any day. If anyone is in the Denver area, be sure to check it out.

Just can't wait to get out and fish these things.

Those look great! Very buggy looking and I bet they have really good movement underwater.

no_worries, a nice first post. Welcome to the forum. I like the flies you've show here. I also am pretty new at tying too. Your flies should work very well. Fly tying is one of my favorite parts of fly fishing. There's nothing like hooking a fish with one of your own handmade creations. Tell us how they work out for you.

Your flies look good. You really should've seen the first flies I tied many years ago - I think yours look so much better. Too bad about the local fly shop going out of business. But I hope you continue to have fun. Your flies should catch fish.

It's all about having fun. Good job. I have to echo Jack here. I can't remember my first flies for sure - but I'm sure they were not as good lookin' as those.

Now to get them baptized - get out and fish them. Any good winter fishing near you?

There are a few places I've heard about in the area. One of the tailwaters I went to check out was closed due to dredging behind the dam, but I have few excuses not to be out fishing. It was almost 60 degrees here today!

Very good tenkara flies IMO!

By the way, for reference, the flies on the left were tied by a master tenkara angler who has been tenkara fishing for over 70 years! On the right, by a novice who was interested in fly-tying.

Hi Daniel,

I really like those flies (the ones on the right). What kind of hackle is that?

BUMP! So does anyone know what kind of hackle is used in the flies on the right? It almost looks like guinea that's been clipped or something.

I think it is a guinea feather that was cut, but it could probably be a lot of different things with all of the exotic feathers available to fly tyers these days.
