I feel the need to speak up in defense of Daniel on this one. There is absolutely no intent to keep the focus in the west. At this year's summit, three months ago, the Tenkara Guides mentioned to Daniel that they were interested in hosting next year's summit. They've been discussing it ever since then. If the Tenkara Guides had been based in State College instead of Salt Lake, the 2012 Summit would be in PA rather than UT.

If someone wants to host a summit, I would highly recommend including Daniel in the planning from the very beginning.

Edited to add: The discussion with the Tenkara Guides, in the bar at the 2011 summit, did not start with them saying "The next summit should be in the west." It started with "We want to host the next summit." Big difference.

Thanks for summing it up perfectly Chris.

We are super psyched about tenkara and wanted to create another very successful summit. It all boiled down to us wanting to host it. I know we've signed up for a lot of work, but that's how excited we are about making a great summit.

We also worked with Daniel to have a Salt Lake City tenkara event in April 2011. Why did Daniel come? Because there was interest and Daniel is a great guy who supports tenkara anglers everywhere. Why did he recently go to Colorado? Same thing, the people there asked for it and there were enough people to support it.

If you want to have a tenkara event in your neck of the woods then set it up!

Only about 4.5 hrs away! I used to build crawlers back in the day, and would love to see your rig.

July and Aug for the most part are dog days, hot temps and high humidity. The best times are late May, June or Sept. if there is enough water. One of the best spots for a Summit with the best Tenkara water is the Great Smoky Mountain Natl. Park, (GSMNP). Tenkara and those streams are a match made in heaven.

Virginia also has some great fishing along and in the Shenandoah NP but I find VA's fishing regs very confusing and expensive for non-resident.

The (GSNMP) would be a perfect place for some kind of Tenkara get-to-gather. Only need a TN or NC fishing license no trout stamp just a temp license. (just sayin)

I'm delighted to be going to Salt Lake next July and I'd be equally delighted to head for the Smokies in at a later time.

In planning dates for an eastern function, would it be a good idea to co-ordinate prime fishing times? It sounds like spring and early summer are good times in the Smokies, for instance, and in much of the water may be too high to fish at that time due to runoff.

Alot of natural Trout waters in Tennessee. :D Perhaps there are five posters on the forum from Tenn that I know of. And I'm sure alot more, but eventually there must be a Smokey Mountain gathering of some kind. So many beautiful locations here in the US. It would be hard to choose one over the other. I like the idea of different locations each year though.
