I just got my Rick Setina fly box! It has my name on it similar to Jason Klass's fly box, but with the trout engraved on it also. It looks fantastic!

rsetina must be some kind of wood ninja or something, mad skillz. Really nice work, that'll look good on any desk, not so practical for creeking though.

Thanks Horn. I do disagree with you about it not being practical on the water. I've seen several wooden boxes used by anglers and as long as you keep it as dry as possible it should work fine. There is a little more care that should be taken when using a wood box. I plan on using dry shake to dry the flies before I put them back or just dry them well on my shirt. No use putting water where it isn't welcome.

It's small because I feel small creeks only require a few flies so the 4 compartments should suffice. I designed it based on the box Dr. Ishigaki uses, compartment wise. I'm not good enough to carve such a beautiful trout on the cover. I wouldn't even attempt it.

I'm curious to know why you don't think it's practical though. Your input would be welcome and appreciated.

Me too. I consider my box very practical. It's the right size, light, and very durable. Not sure what I'm missing here. Curious to hear your feedback as well.

I agree as well. Although it's a beautiful piece I intend to make great use of it on the water. I can only imagine using it for many years as it petinas and shows signs of use then passing it onto my daughter... Hopefully I can get her interested when it comes time, she's only just turning 3 soon

Its not practical for me. I like mine to be waterproof and holds individual flies securely. You drop that box of yours once with the lid open and you're liable to lose your precious flies. A strong gust of wind may even do the same. I'm not a big fan of those box with little door compartments either. A wooden box such as yours is made more for aesthetic in my honest opinion. If you all disagree, no problem. To each his own. Besides, I'd be afraid to get a beautiful wood work like that get wet even if its treated.

What's the dimension and weight of your box?

Thanks for you're input Horn. All good points and I can't disagree with you on any of them. Dropping the box, wind, water can all be a problem. Anyone using one will have to be careful when on the water with it.

I don't know the weight, I never weighed it. It's not heavy at all. The bottom is only 1/8 of an inch thick and the sides are a 1/4 inch thick. The dimensions are 3.75 X 3.25 inches. It will fit in your shirt pocket. That's another thing, don't bend over unless your shirt pocket is buttoned. Though it will float so it wouldn't be too hard to retrieve it as long as the water isn't running faster than you can run down river.

That is a super nice fly box. If I had one it would go fishing every time I went.
