This is probably the greatest natural/environmental disaster in the world since humans have been on the planet. The pictures and commentaries are tragic and shocking, way beyond the ability of most of us to comprehend. I urge everyone to do whatever they can to help the people of Japan.

Please keep in your mind that it should not take a great tragedy for us to identify with and feel a real connection to people in other places whom we may not know. We are all on this planet together and should feel active kinship with others all the time.

A friend, who is also a Hiroshima survivor, told me that you should always believe in a positive future and never put negative thoughts "into the ether". Japan will recover and go forward so be positive and continue to be in prayer.

Good news! Just heard from my cousin! He, and his wife and youngest son are doing fine though they had been out of touch with outside world for over 20 days due to loss of infrastructure in area. They lived far enough from tsunami zone to survive, and were well prepared with enough food and water to last at least 30 days as well as butane stove, and fuel. Damage to their home was minimal. Just ecstatic to hear they are alive and well. Thanks again for all your support!

That's great news!
Thank you very much for letting us know. I had been thinking about your mentioning your cousin.

Six months after the earthquake and tsunami - the old becoming part of the new.

Searching the internet for something totally unrelated I found this web site with 36 pictures showing the construction of a noodle shop, which will be the beginning of a rebuilt marketplace.

Motoyoshi, Miaygi, Japan

What I found interesting is that wooden beams, from buildings over 100 years old that were destroyed, and slate shingles from destroyed homes are becoming part of the new shop along with downed trees that are being made into decorative columns for the shop. Koichi-san catches and grills his first salmon in three months, a hint that priorities remain rearranged. Finally, people from a coastal community would know how-to tie a net and make some left over materials into a hammock.

Updates of the project from June and July through to opening day. { the music played was not quite what I expected, 2nd video, ;-) }
