Tenkara seems eminently suitable for urban angling. Here in Collin County in North Texas there so many small creeks and urban ponds. The distances are short, the presentation at times requiring accuracy to the point of sight casting.

I have been a fly angler for many years but just now ran across Tenkara. Seems a fine way to pack light and get in some fishing around town.

I've done some urban angling here in Worcester, MA. It's fun stuff, I don't normally catch anything big, but every now and then there's a surprise. Ponds in city parks are good to try, most have bluegill, crappie, or pumpkinseed, and I've found one with bass. Reservoir outflows are often teeming with shiners (some of which can get pretty big, and are actually fun to catch on a tenkara rod). You can find fish in other surprising locations too, like the run-off retention ponds around highways. Tenkara is good for urban angling for the same reason it's good for backpacking, you don't have to carry much, and you can set up and pack it down quickly.

I don't have a boat so bank fishing is for me and my buddy. We really like to fish city and county parks. Usually easy access, sometimes nice size fish, bream, bass and catfish. Tenkara is what I prefer to fish with most of the time except for catfish of course. My buddy is often surprised at the number of fish I catch in relation to what he is catching using bait.

If you're an extreme urban angler and have to go so far as take the subway to fish, Tenkara is perfect!
