Tying line to a "lillian"? Are you kidding me? I had some nylon twine, the kind you use in laying concrete or making a cinder block wall where you stretch it between 1 points to establish a LEVEL LINE. Then, I tied a knot near the end of one side of the line (I melted the tip so the line wouldn't fray) like it's tied on the lillian. First, I took some MAXIMA Ultra Green, 4lb test. and tied a Surgeon's loop, then made the loop into a GIRTH HITCH. Then I pulled on the line until it broke. The GIRTH HITCH held...the line broke instead 3" below the hitch.
Next, I tied a SLIP KNOT and wrapped the lillian end 3 times around one side of the loop, pulled it down to the lillian knot and tightened everything up....and pulled until the line broke. Again, the knot held and the line broke below the tied connection. So far...the lillian knots I've tried WORK! To be honest, this type of line connection is totally new to me and doesn't seem like it would work but it sure did! I've learned something new!
