This is a great tip JD and one that I will try!

Very insightful JD. I haven't heard or thought of that before.
I just gave it a quick try and it seems to work well, though to be honest I'm not sure about any differences because I really do not have a problem with it.

I broke your instructions down below, hope you don't mind and thank you for the contribution:
Quote:
1) Start by holding the spool in the vertical position
2) Wrap over the top away from yourself and under the bottom toward your self,
3) Wrap about half of the line this way and then flip the spool over in hand and continue wrapping the line. In this position you will be wrapping over the top toward yourself and under the bottom away from yourself.

I'll have to give that a try.

I haven't really had an issue with excessive line twist/memory on the spools. After reading your post, I think the reason is my Annapolis sailing background:

1) If moving spots, and winding the line in a counterclockwise direction, give the line a quarter twist in your fingers also in a counterclockwise direction. This is how lines are neatly stacked on a sailboat. Also works great for utility cords, christmas lights, etc.

2) If changing lines or done for the day, wind half the line onto the spool, then disconnect the line from the rod. As you wind the line and the tip begins to lift off the ground, slow your winding. The line will untwist itself. Something similar is used to avoid twists when unloading sheets on a sailboat.
