I fished with fly without the reel before I began to do it with the reel. Fishing grayling in Urals, Russia, at small forest rivers and creeks, I had worked out my personal style with lightest carbon cane, thick fluorocarbon line and the fly. Later I begun to use western style fly fishing techniques for large rivers, but 60% of fishing was in my own “reelless” style, because I like small river fishing more. Once I found Tenkara in web. Since that moment Tenkara became my best fishing practice. I fish tenkara only anywhere and anytime. To be honest, I never fish at stocked reservoirs and fisheries – I like backcountry, wild nature and wild fish.
Having come to Prague this year, I learned to speak Czech at the Charles University. I began to read local fly-fishing forums in search of Czech "Tenkara brothers of a like mind". The mission failed! I am the only Tenkara angler in the Czech Republic. Being the tenkara apologist, I’ve created The Tenkara Times web page for all European Tenkara enthusiasts.

One more step to “one fly philosophy”. Tench (“doctor fish”)takes kebari.
Yesterday I received the new rod prototype for my page and went to the nearest creek to test its casting capability. Botich creek in Prague is 200 meters far from my house and, even it is bushed and narrow I have the possibility to cast anytime I want. Botich’s normal habitants are bleak, roach, small chubs and rudds. While testing rods and lines I always have some takes and catches. There are some reservoirs upper and lower, stocked with carp, but I never fish there.
I’ve got the take and was really surprised, when see the fish. It was tench!
I’ve made one more step to “one fly philosophy”: even tenches take kebaries!

Yesterday I received new furled line and immediately went to Botich creek to test it. It's a fun, but I've caught the second tench on the kebari at the same place  . Probably the first tench catch on the kebari was not accident..

Looks like tough fish, like a cross between Bass and Carp.
I have never seen any Tenkara fishers in my neck of the woods. Seems several people know what Tenkara fishing is these days. Maybe this will soon change for us both.

Yesterday I and my son went cycling and I took two rods to fish half an hour at Botich. Zander also takes “tench” kebari, it was hooked by my son!!! I’ve seen the attack, it was really showily.

Interesting looking catches you have had.

Amazing how fish from different parts of the world look.

Thank you for sharing.

that last picture of a Zander is what we know here in th US as a Walleye. Zander is the German word for Walleye.

a tench is a really strong fighter, they are part of the carp family. in my career (before tenkara) I only caught one tench when I was a teenager.

Zander is also called pike-perch. It is predator fish, even small. I was surprized with that catch. I've posted the kebari pattern in fly section.
