One of my co-worker/friends just bought a western fly rod setup and we're heading to a local stream for his first time. I'll be bringing my tenkara rods. He's heard of them so I think seeing one might entice him to look into buying. We'll see. He has a 9 year old that can't leave the bait in the water and I told him fly fishing would be perfect for him. Drift, cast, drift, cast. I'm excited about showing him what fly fishing is all about.

Rick,

The main thing is to have fun, but somehow I already know you'll do this. :) I think you're just the right guy to show them fly fishing.

Sounds like a fun day is planned. Let us know how the day goes. Tj

That 9-yr old should have no problem with the tenkara - hopefully there are some willing fish.

My kids, now 8 and 10 don't go fishing too much - but when they do they want to use the tenkara rods almost exclusively. I think part of it is that they know that it's a Japanese style and they think that it's cool because of that - the other part is that it's so much simpler to cast.
