I tried out my new Ebisu on the North and South Forks of the Tye River in Virginia last weekend. The rod has a peculiar action compared to the Amago and Iwana rods that I'm used to. It begs me to cast very slowly and deliberately. I love the pine handle! It feels excellent in my hand. But the action feels strange indeed. I've decided that I want an Iwana with a pine handle... I think that would be my dream rod. The Ebisu was well suited to the Fallfish that I found in the lower reaches of the Main stem. I found two nice sized hold over Rainbows in the North Fork but no sign of any trout over 4 inches in the South Fork. The main stem was completely given over to smallmouth bass and bluegill. It was fun fishing though. My first time catching smallmouth with a Tenkara rod. They were loving the hare's ear spiders I tied with reverse partridge hackles! Not a lot of trout but still an amazing day in a beautiful watershed.
